Newsome Farm is located in King, North Carolina in the heart of rural Stokes County and is owned and operated by Brad and Vickie Newsome. Newsome Farm is a family farm that has been in operation for several generations and has earned the honor of being named a Century Farm by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture. Since Brad and Vickie have owned and operated the farm, they have been involved in and grown several commodities. Their beginnings were in tobacco, but changing markets and interests have now transformed the farm into a poultry, beef, horse, and hay operation. Here at Newsome Farm, we offer pasture horse boarding, high quality hay, USDA inspected beef, and an on-farm vacation rental stay in our historical cabin.
Brad and Vickie bought the farm from Vickie's family in the early 1990's and immediately began making improvements. They started applying their agriculture knowledge to implement conservation practices for a sustainable operation. They have raised three daughters on the farm: McKayla, Madeline and Meredith. McKayla and Madeline both attended NC State University and received Bachelors Degrees in Animal Science with minors in Agriculture Business Management. McKayla also has a Masters of Science degree from NC State University with a focus in Animal Science. Madeline is currently in the same program to receive her Masters of Science. Meredith is the artist of the family and is attending Appalachian State University where she is pursuing a degree in Math Education with a minor in Art Education. Brad and Vickie have always stressed the importance of everyone working together on the farm and learning the values of a good work ethic. McKayla has returned to the area since graduating and uses her degree and expertise in animal science to implement a livestock health protocol and animal records, along with working on the farm when not at her full-time position.
The mission of Newsome Farm is to produce high quality products that our family and future farming generations can be proud of while continuing the passion for agriculture.
